Damp and Timber Specialists for 50 years

Prokil is Evolving the Standard of Property Care.

For decades, the industry standard for damp and mould remediation has focused on the visible elements of stripping back contaminated plaster, treating the masonry and applying anti-mould coatings. While these steps are vital, they often leave behind an invisible threat that can compromise the health of a building’s occupants and the longevity of the repair itself in airborne fungal spores.

At Prokil, we are proud to introduce our Air Purification Service, a specialist clean air add-on designed to support our damp services and mould remediation. By utilising industrial-grade air scrubbing technology, we follow up cleaning your walls by purifying the very air you breathe.

Why Choose Prokil?

Our breadth of experience across multiple different sectors, building types, materials and client needs means we have the expertise to implement a reliable remedial action to your problems.

We offer practical solutions to damp, timber rot, structural repairs or waterproofing and analysis of the issue is determined by our trained specialists, backed by industry-vetted accreditations, such as CSRT, CSTDB, and CSSW.  We have helped over 37,000 clients, from landlords and homeowners to commercial developers. Judge us by our results – explore our case studies to find out more about what we have done for other clients, possibly in a similar situation to you.

Why is Air Purification Necessary?

When you see black mould on a wall, you are looking at a mature colony. These colonies act like biological factories, releasing millions of microscopic spores into the air. These spores are designed to travel fast as they are lightweight, hardy and invisible to the naked eye. removing them from your walls may give the impression all is resolved, but the air can still be full of the spores, waiting to fix onto another surface and continue to multiple.

  • The Aerosol Effect: During the process of physical mould removal, even when performed by professionals using the best property care techniques, the disturbance of mould colonies can cause a massive spike in airborne spore concentration. While the wall may then look clean, the air in the room remains charged with fungal particulate.
  • The Risk of Re-infection: If these spores are not removed from the air, they eventually settle. If they land on a surface that is still drying out or in a room with high humidity, the cycle of growth begins all over again. This is often why mould appears to return even after a damp proofing course has been installed.

How Industrial-Grade Air Purification Works

We don’t use standard home air purifiers. Prokil provides high-output air purification units (often also called air scrubbers) for short-term rental following our treatments. These units use a three-stage process to ensure 99.9% of biological contaminants are removed.

Stage 1: Pre-Filtration

The unit draws in large volumes of air, passing it through a pre-filter that captures larger particles like dust and debris. This protects the sensitive internal components and begins the cleaning process.

Stage 2: HEPA Filtration (The Spore Trap)

The core of the unit is a HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. These filters are rated to capture 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. To put that in perspective, a typical mould spore is between 2 and 10 microns. The HEPA filter acts as a physical barrier that mould spores simply cannot pass through.

Stage 3: UV-C Purification (The DNA Kill-Switch)

Unlike standard filters that just “hold” the spores, our advanced units utilise UV-C light technology. As the air passes through the unit, it is bathed in a specific wavelength of ultraviolet light that penetrates the cellular wall of the fungal spore, damaging its DNA. This ensures that the spore is not just trapped, but sterilised and unable to reproduce.

When is This Service Recommended?

To ensure the most comprehensive property care, we recommend air purification in the following scenarios:

  • After Mould Removal: To capture spores disturbed during the cleaning process.
  • Occupied Properties: To improve air quality for residents or employees immediately.
  • Following Building Disturbance: When stripping back plaster or masonry.
  • Flood Restoration: To manage air quality as part of the drying-out process.
  • Odour Issues: When “musty” smells persist in a room.
