Ventilation & Condensation

Ventilation and Condensation

Condensation is a common type of damp which is caused by the build-up of excess moisture. This moisture will then condense, usually on exterior walls and windows which are at-or-below the dew point.  The dew point is the temperature a surface would have to be for moisture to condense on. Prokil provide effective solutions to alleviate condensation in your property.

Issues caused by condensation

condensation_prokilCondensation levels are increased by poor ventilation and intermittent heating which creates the perfect environment for mould to form. You will see black or green spots appearing on the surface of walls or woodwork. Mould formation may also appear on walls behind cabinets, on the back of furniture and can even be transferred to porous surfaces such as your clothes, paper and shoes.

Mould and condensation issues are at their height during the winter months as we tend to have our windows closed more as the temperature drops. This means the excess moist air within our homes cannot escape leaving it to condense on the coldest areas such as exterior walls and windows.

Condensation treatments

The first step to relieving condensation within your home is correct ventilation and heating management. Prokil offers two ventilation solutions that will aid condensation issues in your property.

The first solution we offer is Passive Air Vents (PAVs) which are an effective way of expelling excess moisture and in extreme cases can expel up to 2.5 litres of water per day. They require no electricity and function 24 hours a day.

The second solution is a Positive Pressure Ventilation System (PPVS) which helps to reduce moisture levels within your property by introducing heated air that has been specially filtered. This decreases the level of humidity and stale air in your property.
