The best timber treatments
If your property has timber issues, the first thing to do is to give our team a call today for your survey. While you wait, please read on to find out how we will identify and then treat timber related problems in your home.
Wet rot
Wet rot is often mistaken for dry rot, but it is important to act if you suspect either in your home. There are two types of wet rot – white and brown both of which are equally as destructive for the home if left untreated. Typical signs of brown rot include but are not limited to darkened timbers and slight cuboidal fractures. Whereas white rot differs in that the timbers lighten up and have a texture that is fibrous.
Not sure if you have brown or white wet rot? Don’t take the risk of being unsure when we are only one phone call away. Your assigned timber treatment specialist will assess your property and let you know what they have found.
Dry rot
Dry rot or to give its proper name – Serpula Lacrymans is known to prosper in environments with a high level of humidity. If you have places in the home that are badly ventilated, there is a high chance that dry rot could develop. You are probably thinking what are the tell-tale signs? Before you call our timber treatment specialists, you will want to make sure that you have this type of problem. Listed underneath are some signs:
- Darkened timbers
- Cuboidal timber cracks
- Fine grey strands
- Cotton wool like growth
- Red dust
However, the best and most accurate diagnosis will come from one of our timber treatment specialists. We advise you to book a survey today before the problem worsens.
How we treat timber issues
Our customers often ask just exactly how do we treat affected timbers. Unfortunately, we are unable to reveal how we do it because every case is unique. Once the survey has been completed and written up, you will receive a report (typically by email) outlining our findings. It is in this report that we will provide you with our suggestions to combat the issue at hand.
Why choose Prokil
There are many timber treatment specialist companies on the market, yet few have Prokil’s expertise and stature. Our company has over 50 years of experience in the industry. We are the first choice for timber treatment specialists across the South of England. Homeowners, property owners and letting agents all count on us to deliver an excellent service.
In contrast to competitors on the market, our surveyors are not salesmen on the hunt to find work in your home. They are there to conduct an inspection of your home or commercial property. This visit is purely advisory and should our surveyors find any issues, they will provide recommendations on how to combat this with the help of Prokil.
Every surveyor on our timber treatment specialist team has undergone various in-house and external training to ensure they are fully qualified to assess properties. With qualifications such as BWPDA (British Wood preservations and Damp-proofing Ass.) & CSRT (Certificated Surveyor in Remedial Treatment) & CTIS (Certificated Timber Infestation Surveyor), the team are able to assess and diagnose the following:
- Wet rot and dry rot
- Woodworm
- Damp
- Rising damp
- Fungal decay
If you have received a pre-purchase report in which the surveyor has pointed out defects relating to damp or timber decay, do not worry as we are here to help. Should it be required, we supply practical advice and a written quote if this is needed for repairs as outlined by mortgage lenders’ surveyors.
“Had big damp problem, Prokil did their job and sorted it out for me. Finally the damp smell has gone.”
