Wet Rot

Wet rot is a problem that can have a destructive impact on the structure of your property. Prokil supplies effective wet rot treatments for properties across the South of England.

We strongly advise that you call Prokil if you suspect rot in your property. Due to the wide range of wet rot species, it can often be difficult to identify and is often mistaken for dry rot. The correct identification of the rot is necessary as the treatment of wet rot and dry rot are completely different. Incorrect identification may incur additional works and unnecessary costs.

Signs of wet rot

Wet rot can be divided into two types – brown and white. Both types of wet rot can be very destructive to timber but they both have different characteristics which will depend on the environment and type of wood.

The most common types of wet rot are Cellar fungus (Coniophora puteana), Mine fungus (Poria vaillantii) and Phellinus contiguus.  White rot will cause the timber to lighten in appearance and take on a fibrous texture. Whereas, brown rot will cause the timber to darken in colour and causes cuboidal fractures.

Wet rot treatment and maintenance

It can be difficult to identify wet rot due to the wide range of wet rot species and the similarities with dry rot. The correct identification of the rot is essential as the treatment of wet rot and dry rot are different. The incorrect identification may incur extra costs.
